In 1854, the domain was started by the Carteyron family. Vines and orchards. Since 1982 Patrick Carteyron is the owner of Château Penin and Grand Clauset. Not so strange because Penin has been owned by the Carteyron family for 5 generations. Grand Clauset he got through his mother’s side. In total 45 ha near Génissac not far from Libourne and Saint-Emilion. In this area between the Dordogne and the Garonne a lot of Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur is made. Also by Patrick. Next to red also white, rosé and clairet.
This is the better cuvée of Penin. Made of 100% Merlot, from the somewhat older vines. The wine matures for 12 months in barriques, of which 1/3 is renewed every year. Beautiful balance between ripe fruit and soft wood tones. A wine with an excellent price-quality ratio. The smell is warm and spicy, with nice wood and cherries; the taste is powerful and fierce, cassis, leather and spices Also with freshness, nice juice and firm tannins.
