The wines of the Domaine Luc Pirlet come from vineyards situated between Narbonne and the Limoux region in the direction of the Pyrenees. The Domaine itself is situated about 20 kilometres from the beautiful citadel of Carcassonne and produces a wide variety of wines. However, there is one important thread running through the range: quality. Quality in the vineyard, the cellar and the presentation.
Luc makes a wide variety of wines. The Les Barriques series is a range of wines from one grape variety. The name says it all, these are wines aged in oak barrels (Barrique).
The Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir have gained their fame in Burgundy. There are beautiful wines made from these grapes in this region. Nowadays, both grapes are also planted a lot in the Languedoc. Grapes thrive in a somewhat temperate climate and on the plains of the Languedoc it is often too warm. Luc therefore planted the grapes in the hills around his Domaine. Temperatures are more pleasant here and it cools off nicely at night. When the grapes are fully ripe, they are harvested and the wine ferments in stainless steel tanks. After this, the Chardonnay matures for about 9 months in oak barrels (50% new, 50% year-old) and the Pinot Noir matures for 6 months. A little shorter so as not to give the wine too much wood.
Chardonnay: a glowing wine with lots of fruit and also enough freshness. Due to the wood maturation, the wine also has beautiful vanilla notes.
Pinot Noir: Juicy but elegant wine with ripe fruit and soft tannins and a long finish.
Both wines score 3,9 (****) on Vivino.
