Roeno Pinot Grigio ‘Tera Alta
Light, crispy and fresh, real Pinot Grigio
Roeno is situated on the border between Veneto and Alto Adige, east of Lake Garda. The family business was founded in the 1960s by Rolando Fugatti, who has since passed on to the 2nd generation: Roberta, Cristina and Giuseppe. Roeno makes fresh, mountain-pure wines, characteristic of the region. They use the local speciality, Gewürztraminer and make surprising red wines from the local grape varieties Marzemino and Terdoldego. They also use Müller Thurgau, Chardonnay and, for this wine, Pinot Grigio.
It comes from the ‘Tera Alta’ vineyard in Valdadige, a wine region in the north of Italy. The grapes are picked by hand. After fermentation, part of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, which converts the sharp (apple) acids to softer (milk) acids. The rest of the wine matures in stainless steel tanks on the lees (‘sur lie’), which makes the wine softer and adds complexity. The result: an elegant wine with a nice balance between fresh acids and tropical fruit.
